Jawline fillersConsultation in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg

A more defined jawline should suit the whole face. Hyaluronic acid can add volume to selected parts of the lower facial contour. Whether that is appropriate depends on the role of volume, skin laxity and other anatomical features.

Jawline filler adds contour; it does not make the face smaller

Jawline treatment places hyaluronic acid volume in selected areas of the lower facial contour. This may change the visible line, but removes neither fat nor excess skin. The first question is therefore what shapes your contour and whether additional volume actually matches your wishes.

What the jawline describes

The jawline usually means the visible lower-jaw outline running from the chin towards the jaw angle. Its shape is individual, and its appearance changes with head position and viewing angle. A social media photograph is therefore not a reliable template for a medical treatment.

Hyaluronic acid filler can add volume at selected points. It does not make the lower face physically smaller or change the jawbone. At Finke & Frantzen in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, we discuss whether modest contouring fits your features and examination findings.

What would you like to change about your jawline?

Some people want a more pronounced jaw angle; others want a smoother transition towards the chin. Others are concerned about tissue under the chin or descended tissue beside the mouth. These can look similar in the mirror but represent different starting points. Show the particular area that concerns you during consultation.

Timing is useful too: has the contour always looked this way, or has it changed? A longstanding facial shape is different from new swelling or a painful change on one side. New symptoms need assessment first, rather than being covered by a cosmetic injection.

You do not need an ideal profile to make a decision. Instead, describe what you would like to retain: a softer facial shape, your existing width or natural asymmetry that does not bother you. A sharper line is not a universal standard of beauty.

Similar wishes, different questions

Your concernWhat needs to be established first
Certain parts of the contour lack definitionWhether targeted added volume suits your existing shape and which views it might change.
Fullness under the chinWhich tissues cause the fullness. Jawline filler does not remove fat.
Skin or tissue hangs beside the jawlineWhether adding volume makes sense at all; excess skin and tissue descent require their own assessment.
A broad lower face with grinding or chewing problemsAssess symptoms and possible muscular involvement separately; contour filler does not treat bruxism.
More definition throughout the faceIdentify the intended region. Cheeks and lower jaw are different treatment areas, not a standard package.

Less definition can have different causes

Several factors can make a jawline less distinct. Skin and soft tissue, fat distribution, chin shape and bony anatomy all influence its appearance. Filler can replace missing volume but cannot remove fat or correct every degree of laxity. Added volume may be undesirable in an already substantial lower face.

Previous injections, procedures, illnesses, allergies and medicines matter for planning. Do not stop prescribed medication without medical advice. An inflamed treatment area is not injected. Aesthetic fillers are not used during pregnancy; breastfeeding must also be raised beforehand.

Consider the chin, jaw angle and neck together

The side view alone is not enough for planning. A change you like in profile may add width when seen from the front. The transition between chin and neck also matters. Discuss both the view you want to change and those you are already happy with.

Filler changes soft-tissue volume, not the position of the teeth or jawbones. If your aesthetic concern accompanies problems biting or chewing, or pain, separate dental or medical assessment is needed. Profile treatment should not be understood as a solution to an unexplained functional problem.

With substantial excess skin, consultation may lead to discussion of other options such as surgical lifting. This does not mean surgery is necessary. Choosing no treatment is also an option. What matters is not equating a small injection with the outcome of tissue-tightening surgery.

A plan based on your own facial shape

The face, profile and tissues are examined first. We then discuss achievable changes, limitations and alternatives. There is no universal filler quantity or contour that suits every face. Treatment should not be driven solely by a wish to reproduce a particular photographic silhouette.

After cleansing and disinfection, filler is placed according to the medical plan. Pressure, needle pain or stinging may occur. Pain-relief options are explained beforehand. Possible complications belong in the discussion just as much as the intended aesthetic effect.

From planning to follow-up

  1. Assess profile and tissues

Achievable changes, limitations and alternatives are discussed.

  2. Plan contouring

Material and extent depend on your own facial shape.

  3. Review progress

Swelling and bruising are considered when assessing the later result.

An individual plan rather than a fixed number of millilitres

An offer based on quantity does not answer the main question: where would extra volume be useful, and where would it not? Before treatment, ask about the proposed areas, material and defined goal. Treating the chin or a neighbouring area is a separate decision, not an automatic part of every jawline appointment.

A 2024 randomised study by Rivkin and colleagues investigated one hyaluronic acid filler. The main comparison with an untreated group took place at six months; that group could then receive treatment too. Twelve-month follow-up therefore does not mean twelve months of continuous comparison against no treatment. It neither guarantees individual duration nor identifies the product used by our practice. Participants were adults with moderate to severe loss of jawline definition. These findings therefore cannot automatically be applied to every desired contour change.

Ask how you would jointly recognise that the goal has been reached. A clearly defined change is more helpful than a wish for ever more contour. Further injections need a clear rationale, rather than being prompted solely by a small irregularity in a photograph.

Assessing the contour after treatment

Swelling and bruising can temporarily make the jawline appear more prominent or uneven. Do not judge the result only on the treatment day. Pre-existing asymmetry may remain visible, and complete evenness cannot be promised.

Advice on exercise, cosmetics, heat and pressure depends on your treatment. Do not massage the area unless specifically instructed. Hyaluronic acid is not permanent. Whether another treatment is appropriate depends on progress; more volume does not automatically mean a sharper or more balanced contour.

What to discuss at your review

Note what you have observed since treatment: swelling, tenderness, palpable areas and changes when speaking or chewing. Bring questions rather than trying to correct the result yourself through pressure or massage. Your individual aftercare instructions take priority over social media advice.

For an aesthetic difference, it helps to ask whether it existed before and whether the area is still changing. Comparing similar lighting and head positions is more useful than changing selfie angles. Photographs do not replace examination, especially when symptoms occur. Warning signs in the following section must not wait for a scheduled appointment.

Even after several months, a top-up is not automatically due. Before another injection, existing material, your experience so far and your current wishes should be reviewed. You can bring records of earlier treatments to your Berlin consultation. Also note any change you specifically do not want.

Risks and symptoms that cannot wait

Possible effects include pain, swelling, bruising, irregularities, asymmetry, infection and delayed inflammatory reactions. Rarely, a blood vessel can become blocked and tissue may be damaged. Visual disturbances, including loss of vision, are also recognised serious complications of facial fillers.

Unusually severe or increasing pain, marked pallor or mottled skin require immediate medical assessment. If visual disturbances or neurological symptoms occur, call 112 immediately. Do not wait for a routine review. Individual advice on managing other symptoms is provided during the consent discussion.

Frequently asked questions

Does jawline filler make the face slimmer?

Filler adds volume and removes no tissue. A changed contour may look different, but slimming is not guaranteed. In a broad lower face, additional volume may have the opposite effect.

Does it treat teeth grinding?

No. Hyaluronic acid contouring does not address the causes of bruxism. Chewing problems or teeth grinding need a separate medical or dental assessment.

Can it remove a double chin?

No. Filler does not remove fat beneath the chin. Examination is needed to understand which tissues affect the contour and whether any treatment is appropriate.

Is there a fixed price for jawline treatment?

Costs depend on the individual plan and are explained during consultation. The medical consultation carries a fee. No standard prices are listed on the website.

Does the chin always need treatment too?

No. The chin is considered when assessing your profile, but that does not automatically mean an injection. Each additional area needs a specific reason and separate discussion of its risks.

Is a very angular jawline the aim?

Only if that matches your wishes and a reasonable treatment goal. There is no shape that suits everyone or rigid template for men or women. In particular, discuss how additional width might look from the front.

Can jawline filler remove jowls?

Changing neighbouring contours may influence their appearance. It does not remove descended tissue or surgically tighten excess skin. With marked laxity, limitations and other options need to be discussed openly.

Exactly how long does the result last?

An exact duration cannot be promised. The product, treatment and individual course matter. Study follow-up is not a guarantee of your personal benefit; decisions about further treatment depend on what actually develops.

What matters if I have previous filler or a chin implant?

Mention it before new treatment is planned and bring any records you have. Unknown material or symptoms particularly call for examination first. Not every previous procedure can be freely combined with a new injection.

Can consultation end without treatment?

Yes. The paid consultation is intended to clarify suitability, limitations and alternatives. It does not commit you to an injection. If additional volume does not fit your findings or wishes, deciding against it can be appropriate.
