The practice

Expertisewhere our surgeons come from

Three doctors, three routes into plastic surgery — and one thing in common: each of them spent years in senior hospital positions before this practice existed.

Board-certified in two specialties

Dr. med. Stephan Frantzen

Dr. Stephan Frantzen is distinguished by an unusually thorough surgical training.

He completed a full specialist training in surgery first. During that time the wish to go deeper into plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery took hold, and a second specialist training followed. He therefore holds both the title of board-certified surgeon and that of board-certified plastic and aesthetic surgeon.

He worked for many years in senior positions at well-regarded hospitals — most recently as head of the Department of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery at the maximum-care hospital in Berlin-Buch. Before that he was senior consultant in the Department of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery at the Emil von Behring hospital in Berlin. He represented in particular the field of reconstructive and plastic-aesthetic breast surgery, and lectured on it at national and international congresses.

Alongside his post as head of department, in 2015 Dr. Frantzen opened his private practice for plastic and aesthetic surgery in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg. It grew so well that the rooms soon became too small and the schedule too tight.

Voluntary social work mattered to him from the beginning: for the aid organisation INTERPLAST he regularly operates, without payment, on severely injured or malformed patients in South America. Full CV.

A focus on the female breast

Dr. med. Juliane C. Finke

For Dr. Juliane Finke it was clear at the very start of her career that she wanted to specialise in the treatment and shaping of the female breast. She was able to build that focus into her training from the beginning and learned the full spectrum of plastic-aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery.

Dr. Finke studied medicine at the University of Rostock. After qualifying she worked first as a registrar in general surgery at the Kantonsspital Frauenfeld in Switzerland, where she already rotated into the department for plastic and reconstructive surgery. After her doctorate in 2008, awarded summa cum laude, she took the Swiss basic surgical examination.

Her specialist training followed at the Department of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery at the University Hospital Zurich. There she learned microsurgical techniques early — skills that allow her to carry out particularly demanding reconstructive operations in patients with breast cancer, previous surgery and radiotherapy. The breast is reconstructed by microsurgical transfer of the patient's own tissue, from the abdomen, buttock or thigh. She has worked in that field since 2007 — first as a registrar, later as a specialist, and from 2014 to 2018 as a consultant.

In 2010 she passed the European board examination and has been a Fellow of the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (FEBOPRAS) since. As a particular distinction she spent a year training with the internationally regarded plastic surgeons Professor Feller and Professor Heitmann — two of the leading plastic surgeons in the field of aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery.

She then continued at the University Hospital Zurich and completed her training on the burns intensive care unit. After seven years in Switzerland Dr. Finke moved to Berlin, where she worked at the HELIOS-Klinikum Emil von Behring as a specialist and, from 2014 to 2018, as a consultant. She was additionally appointed as a consultant to the breast centre of Krankenhaus Waldfriede, where she represented plastic and reconstructive breast surgery independently.

From 2013 to 2016 Dr. Finke was a research fellow of the Oskar Helene Foundation, funding her own research project on the early detection of transplant complications after breast reconstruction. In cooperation with the Proteome Center of the University of Rostock she supervised a doctoral student who was awarded summa cum laude. She published the results in international journals and in a book chapter. Full CV.

Internationally trained

Gustavo Saravia Leguizamon*

Gustavo Saravia Leguizamon* is distinguished by an exceptionally broad and international surgical training.

After studying medicine in Argentina he first completed his training in general surgery and obtained the board certification for it. From that grew the wish to combine surgical precision with a particularly fine sense of form, proportion and restoration.

Specialisation in plastic and reconstructive surgery in Buenos Aires followed. In that period he deepened his operative experience in a field that demands high technical accuracy, aesthetic understanding and sensitivity. After obtaining his German medical licence he continued consistently on that path and was recognised in 2017 by the Berlin Medical Council as a board-certified plastic and aesthetic surgeon.

His posts have taken him to the Klinikum Stadt Soest, the Vivantes Auguste-Viktoria-Klinikum in Berlin and the Schlosspark-Klinik Berlin, where he worked for several years as a board-certified plastic and aesthetic surgeon and later took on the position of lead physician for plastic surgery.

What is particularly valuable is the combination of a general surgical foundation, plastic-reconstructive experience and aesthetic specialisation. Gustavo Saravia Leguizamon does not regard beauty as a fixed ideal but as something deeply personal: his aim is to accompany patients so that they feel not altered but settled, secure and more themselves again. Together since 2018

The partnership practice

Dr. Frantzen and Dr. Finke met while working together at the Emil von Behring hospital in Berlin and quickly came to value each other as reliable and excellent colleagues. The collaboration became particularly close during the many joint operations in which they worked hand in hand using highly demanding microsurgical techniques, often mastering very difficult situations together.

In October 2018 the two opened their partnership practice at Heinrich-Roller-Straße 15 in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg.

Today, with Dr. Finke, Dr. Frantzen and Gustavo Saravia*, three board-certified specialists with different areas of focus are available to you.

Teaching and the profession

What we pass on

Part of our work takes place not with patients but in front of colleagues. Both doctors give specialist lectures at symposia and congresses of the professional societies, and they organise training events for medical colleagues.

Dr. Frantzen was a speaker and instructor on thread lifting at the University Dermatology Clinic in Tübingen from 2020 to 2022 and publishes on the subject. Dr. Finke has lectured on breast lift techniques, capsular contracture and intimate surgery at the annual meetings of the Berlin-Brandenburg Surgical Society (BCG) and the VDÄPC.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about our expertise

Medically reviewed by Dr. Juliane C. Finke and Dr. Stephan Frantzen

01

What does board certification actually mean?

In Germany it is a formal qualification awarded by the regional medical council after six years of structured specialist training and an examination. It is not the same as the unprotected term “aesthetic surgeon”, which anyone with a medical licence may use.

02

Which of the three will operate on me?

That depends on the procedure and on what you prefer. Intimate surgery for women is always carried out by Dr. Finke. For everything else you will be told at the consultation who would perform your operation.

03

Do the doctors teach?

Yes. Both give specialist lectures at congresses and organise training events for colleagues. Dr. Frantzen taught thread lifting at the University Dermatology Clinic in Tübingen from 2020 to 2022.

04

Which languages can I be seen in?

German, English and Spanish.
